Arabic is taught to all students in the Qatar International School from Reception upwards. It is taught in two seperate streams: Arabic for Arabic-speakers, and Arabic for non-Arabs.

Arabic for Arabic Speakers

Reception students follow an introductory course designed by the school, which introduces them to the alphabet and the basics of the language through words and pictures.

From Year 1 to Year 6 the school follows the national Arabic curriculum devised by the Ministry of Education in Qatar. Classes include reading, dictation, grammar and composition.

We encourage the students to learn by supplementing the national curriculum with books and training materials from overseas to add variety and interest.

Assessment is continuous through regular testing and end of term examinations. Feedback on progress is given to parents regularly through notes in the students' homework books, test results, meetings with parents and the school's formal end of year reports.

Arabic for Non-Arabs

Students from non-Arabic speaking backgrounds are offered a parallel course which aims to introduce them to the basics of the spoken and written language.

The course is less formal than that taken by Arabic-speakers, aiming instead to give students of all abilities a grounding in the Arabic language which will be of practical use during their stay in Qatar.
