On Thursday 21st January, 40 students set off on their first walking expedition into the desert for the Bronze section of their International Award.
After weeks of preparation in school, pupils hoisted everything they would need for a night camping in the desert onto their backs and walked about 12 kilometres from school to the desert beyond Doha Golf Club. Despite the weather being surprisingly warm, the pupils raced along and impressed all the teachers by managing to reach the campsite faster than in previous years. After a visit from some wandering camels, pupils set up camp, cooked their food over coals and enjoyed completing some evening activities in their groups. A damp night’s sleep followed before everyone was up bright and early on Friday for the walk back to school in equally impressive time.
All students who took part should be extremely proud of their positive attitudes and mature behaviour on the trip as they were all determined to have fun and complete the practice expedition. They are all now very well prepared for their qualifying expedition which will take place in Al Khor in February.
